Josep Caballé i Domenech (* 1973 in Barcelona ) is a Catalan conductor.

Josep Caballé i Domenech was born in 1973 into a family of musicians in Barcelona. In addition to studying piano, drums, singing and violin in Barcelona, ​​he completed conducting studies in Vienna, Sweden and Aspen. His conducting mentors included Jorma Panula , David Zinman , Sergiu Comissiona, and Sir Colin Davis . Caballé i Domenech won the 1st Jóvenes Directores de la Orquesta Sinfónica del Principado de Asturias competition (2000, Young Orchestra Conductors of the Principate of Asturias Symphony Orchestra) and the 13th International Nicolai Malko Competition for young conductors in Copenhagen in 2001 . He was also awarded the Aspen Prize from the American Academy of Orchestra Conducting and was selected by Sir Colin Davis for the opening cycle of the 2003/2003 Rolex Mentor and Protection of the Arts initiative . He made his operatic debut at the Gran Teatre del Liceu in Barcelona. He conducted performances of Mozart's Così fan tutte , Haydn's Il mondo della luna , Donizetti's L'elisir d'amore and Lucia di Lammermoor as well as Enric Granados Maria del Carmen . In February 2009 he conducted the world premiere of the opera La cabeza del Bautista (The Head of the Baptist) by Enric Palomar at Liceu . He directed other productions at Liceu, the Savonlinna Festival and La Fenice in Venice. From 2005 to 2007 Caballé i Domenech was guest conductor of the Norköping Symphony Orchestra . Since the 2011/2012 season he has been musical director of the Colorado Springs Philharmonic in the United States. Since then he has also worked closely with the Semperoper in Dresden. For a long time he has also been the musical director of the Orquesta Filarmónica de Bogotá . From 2013 to 2018 he was general music director and chief conductor of the Staatskapelle Halle . In 2014 he made his debut at the Deutsche Staatsoper Berlin and in 2016 at the Hamburg State Opera . In February 2019, Caballé i Domenech was appointed chief conductor of the chamber orchestra of the German Moritzburg Festival .
