Joseph Höffner Society

The Joseph Höffner Society sees itself as an association for the promotion of the Christian social teaching of the Church in the sense of the scientific, social and pastoral life work of Joseph Cardinal Höffner .

The association is dedicated to the memory and work of the scientist and Bishop Joseph Höffner. In 2002 the Joseph Höffner Society was founded by Lothar Roos , Manfred Spieker , Martin Lohmann and others. Legally, it is an association in the Archdiocese of Cologne with its seat in Cologne ; however, the office is located on the premises of the Collegium Albertinum in Bonn . The chairman has been the Dominican Father Johannes Zabel since 2018, his deputy is the social scientist Ursula Nothelle-Wildfeuer ; Since then, the managing director has been the lawyer Georg Dietlein, the treasurer of the economist Michael Sendker. The board also includes: Elmar Nass , Christian Müller , Philipp M. Laufenberg, Thomas Nickel and Jochen Sautermeister. Honorary chairman is the Bonn social ethicist Lothar Roos, who headed the society from 2002 to 2018 as chairman. The Auxiliary Bishop Manfred Melzer from Cologne was a member of the board until his death (2018) . Auxiliary Bishop Dominik Schwaderlapp succeeded him as the representative of the Archbishop of Cologne on the board .

The aim and task is to cultivate the social doctrine in the sense of the scientific, social and pastoral life's work of Joseph Cardinal Höffner, to deepen it through scientific research, to disseminate it and to convey it in the context of current issues and applications.
