Andreas Kruse (born August 26, 1955 in Aachen ) is a German psychologist , gerontologist and demographer and author of the Bundestag reports on the elderly .

Career

Kruse grew up in a medical household in Aachen as the son of Herbert and Waltraut Kruse , was a member of the Regensburger Domspatzen and later studied psychology , philosophy and music . His interest in gerontology was awakened by the geriatric researcher and CDU family minister Ursula Lehr , who founded the Institute for Gerontology in Heidelberg in 1986 and employed him as the first employee.

In 1987 Kruse wrote the final report of the Stuttgart Future Congress , which dealt with the topic of " Aging as an opportunity and a challenge". Two years later, the newly appointed Health Minister Lehr appointed him to the commission for the first report on the elderly . In the 1990s, Kruse completed his habilitation with the thesis “ Competence in old age in relation to the objectively and subjectively assessed life situation” and was appointed to Greifswald to set up the newly founded Institute for Psychology at the university there. In 1997, he returned to Heidelberg University as the successor to his mentor Ursula Lehr, who retired in 1998.

Andreas Kruse's demographic research is about new roles and tasks for older people in European society. Two concrete outcomes from this are a model of teacher training for German nursing schools and a study with advice for old people's facilities . Kruse sees the most difficult task as the question of how political decision-makers can be reached in order to take or promote steps that have long been necessary to cope with the social and personal aging process. Kruse is co-editor of the journal for gerontology and geriatrics .

Kruse was a member of the interdisciplinary research consortium to investigate the sexual abuse of minors by Catholic priests, deacons and male religious in the area of the German Bishops' Conference , which was initiated between 2014 and 2018 by the Association of Dioceses of Germany (VDD) ( MHG study ). On April 23, 2020, he was appointed to the German Ethics Council by the German Bundestag at the suggestion of the SPD .

He is Protestant and says: “I define myself by faith.” Kruse is a member of the Synod of the Evangelical Church in Germany (EKD).
