Joseph Devine (Bishop)

Joseph Devine (born August 7, 1937 in Kirkintilloch , † May 23, 2019 in Wishaw ) was a Scottish Roman Catholic clergyman and emeritus bishop of Motherwell .

Life

Joseph Devine was ordained a priest for the Archdiocese of Glasgow on June 29, 1960 .

Pope Paul VI appointed him on May 5, 1977 auxiliary bishop in Glasgow and titular bishop of Voli . The Archbishop of Glasgow, Thomas Joseph Winning , donated him episcopal ordination on May 31 of the same year ; Co- consecrators were Francis Alexander Spalding Warden Thomson , Bishop of Motherwell, and Stephen McGill PSS , Bishop of Paisley .

Pope John Paul II named him Bishop of Motherwell on May 13, 1983.

Pope Francis accepted his age-related resignation on May 31, 2013.
