Joseph Goedert

Joseph Goedert (born July 27, 1908 in Schwiedelbruch near Rambruch ; † August 9, 2012 in Luxembourg ) was a Luxembourg historian.

He attended the Athénée in Luxembourg and then the University of Montpellier and the Sorbonne . He taught at the classical lyceum in Diekirch, then at the Athénée and was transferred to Germany in May 1942. In September 1944 he returned to the Athénée.

In January 1959 he took over the administration of the National Archives. From February 1965 to 1972 he was head of the Luxembourg National Library .

Goedert had published a large number of articles on the history of Luxembourg.

When he turned 95 in 2003, the ALBAD ( Association luxembourgeoise des bibliothécaires, archivistes et documentalistes ) awarded him its first prize.
