Joseph Jiang Mingyuan

Joseph Jiang Mingyuan CDD (姜明遠) (born February 21, 1921 in Dacaozhuang, Ningjin ; † July 13, 2008 in Biancun, Zhejiang ) was a Roman Catholic priest of the underground church and bishop of Zhào Xiàn in the Chinese province of Hebei .

Life

Joseph Jiang Mingyuan studied Catholic theology and philosophy from 1953 to 1958 ; In 1958 he had to give up his studies due to government pressure and start working as a worker. Because of his religious beliefs, he was imprisoned several times between 1961 and 1969 and spent years in prisons and labor camps. In 1981 he was ordained a priest .

Joseph Jiang Mingyuan was appointed bishop coadjutor of the Diocese of Zhào Xiàn in 2000 by Pope John Paul II . He was ordained bishop on August 8, 2000 by Raymond Wang Chong Lin . The appointment was not recognized by the Chinese government; he was imprisoned for five months. After his release, he suffered a cerebral haemorrhage . 2006 was done by Benedict XVI. the appointment as bishop of Zhào Xiàn.
