Joseph Kovátsch

Joseph Kovátsch (born April 22, 1799 in Vienna ; † June 7, 1839 in St. Veit , today in Vienna- Hietzing ) was an Austrian engraver .

Kovátsch was born the son of a surgeon. From 1815 to 1822 he studied at the Vienna Art Academy in the engraving class with Franz Xaver Stöber .

Kovátsch worked as a reproduction engraver from 1822. He created u. a. Copper engravings based on the watercolor copies of the masterpieces from the Belvedere Gallery in Belvedere Palace, made by Sigmund Ferdinand von Perger .

He created book illustrations for various publishers, as well as copperplate engravings based on the works of baroque and contemporary painters, as well as based on his own templates. From 1828 he also dealt with the art of steel engraving .

He showed his works in the years 1824, 1826, 1828, 1834 and 1836 at the Vienna Academy in Sankt Annahof .
