Live and act

Kramer grew up in a Catholic family. His father was a lawyer and very committed to society. Joseph Kramer, the oldest of six children, always went to Catholic schools from first grade through to university. After finishing high school , at the age of 17, he attended a Jesuit seminar for about ten years before making an important contribution to the development of sexuality as a source of strength. At that time he studied theologian , mathematics and philosophy for about seven years . In 1976, Kramer moved to New York City , where he attended various massage schools, where he came into contact with Tantra. He earned his living as a teacher at an elite Catholic girls' school on the Upper East Side that was affiliated with the Convent of the Sacred Heart . Although he joined Dignity's board of directors and lectured in support of New York's gay rights law, the school knew nothing about his homosexuality until he took his lover to a party. At the instigation of Cardinal Terence Cooke , he had to leave school.

At times he stayed in California to learn the Esalen massage . Kramer stood up for the rights of homosexuals and dealt intensively with Taoism and Tantra , but also acupressure and rebirthing . Wilhelm Reich's texts also found his interest. His methods were also influenced by Stanislav Grof and Mantak Chia . He first came into contact with the ideas of the psychologist Jack Morin while reading the novella "Dancer from the Dance" (1978) by Andrew Holleran . He was later advised by Morin during his PhD .

In 1984 he founded the "Body Electric School" for massage in Oakland , ( California ) and in 1992 the "EroSpirit Research Institute". In 1999 "The New School of Erotic Touch" followed. He is Professor of Somatic Sexology at the Institute for Advanced Study of Human Sexuality in San Francisco . Kramer is a lecturer at the “Institute for Advanced Sexual Psychology” and at the “International Institute for Sexological Bodywork” in Zurich . In summer 2008, he co-founded the Zurich Institute with Didi Liebold and Janine Hug.

In earlier years he had developed the concept of female genital massage ( yoni massage ) together with Annie Sprinkle (actually Ellen Steinberg), a sex worker and artist with a doctorate - she is considered the most prominent " sex positive feminist " within the women's movement . Influences from bioenergetics and sex therapy also accumulated in it.

Both forms of massage were based in their techniques on Tantric- Daoist principles. The spiritual , erotic body work focuses on breathing and massage work. First in 1982 by Kramer, the “Lingam Massage Ritual” for men and later in close cooperation with Annie Sprinkle the “Yoni Massage Ritual” for women was created.
