Joseph Liebherr
Joseph Liebherr (born December 30, 1767 in Immenstadt ; † October 8, 1840 in Munich ) was a professor of precision mechanics .
Life
Liebherr was born as the third son of Xaver Liebherr in Immenstadt. Like his two later brothers, he received training from his father, who was a tower clockmaker and mechanic. He went to Munich in 1801 and met Georg Friedrich von Reichenbach there , with whom he founded a precision engineering workshop in 1802 (from 1804 Mathematical-Physical Institute Reichenbach, Utzschneider and Liebherr ). In 1812 Liebherr left the company and founded his own workshop, in which he also offered his own pendulum clocks in 1815, but his main focus was the construction of mathematical instruments. 1816 was the founding year of the mechanical workshop Utzschneider, Liebherr et Werner , whose employees included Joseph von Fraunhofer , von Reichenbach and Franz Joseph Mahler (who later married Liebherr's daughter, Josepha Liebherr). In 1817 Liebherr joined the Polytechnic Association . After the company went out of business, Liebherr moved to Kempten in 1823 , but returned to Munich in 1827 to become a teacher of mechanics there. At the Polytechnic School , where he worked as a professor, he improved instruments, made models and constructed astronomical clocks.
The Polytechnic Association appointed Liebherr to the administrative committee and in 1834 to the committee for the industrial exhibition.
