Joseph Muth

Joseph Muth (born January 9, 1788 in Hadamar , † March 7, 1866 in Weilburg ) was a German teacher and historian .

Muth received his school education at the grammar school in Hadamar and then studied philology and theology in Aschaffenburg and Limburg . He then worked briefly as an assistant teacher in Düsseldorf , but came back to Dillenburg in Nassau in 1813 as pastor and vice-principal . From 1817 he worked as a teacher at the pedagogies in Hadamar and Wiesbaden . In 1839 he succeeded Wilhelm Frorath as head of education in Hadamar . Finally he came in 1843 as a professor at the Philippinum grammar school in Weilburg. There he was appointed high school supervisor the following year and taught at the college until his retirement in 1858.

In addition to his professional activity, Muth wrote numerous papers, such as the Handbook of the History of the House of Nassau in 1827 . In the summer of 1857 he published the Weilburger Kirchweihlied, which later became very popular .
