Joseph Pehrson

Joseph Ralph Pehrson (born August 14, 1950 in Detroit , Michigan ) is an American composer and pianist .

Life

Pehrson studied composition at the Eastman School of Music and the University of Michigan and earned a Bachelor of Arts in 1972 , a Master of Music in 1973 and completed his studies in 1981 with the Doctor of Musical Arts (DMA). His teachers include Leslie Bassett and Joseph Schwantner, as well as Otto Luening and Elie Siegmeister in New York City .

From 1992 to 1993 he was a guest composer at the University of Akron in Ohio. Together with Patrick Hardish , Pehrson founded Composers Concordance, Inc. in New York in 1983 . He also heads the Composers Concordance Records and is a member of the New York Composers Circle. He writes for New Music Connoisseur , a New York New Music magazine run by the Center for Contemporary Opera and the American Composers Alliance.

His works include orchestral and chamber music , including electronic music. They were u. a. premiered by the soloists Francis Orval and Carson Cooman as well as the ensembles American Modern Ensemble and Ensemble Sortisatio . Pehrson's music was played in numerous cities across the United States. It took him to the Merkin Concert Hall and Carnegie Hall . Concerts also took place in Central and Eastern Europe at the ISCM World Music Days 1999 and Russia, organized by Anton Rovner .
