Patrick Hardish

Patrick Michael Hardish (born April 6, 1944 in Perth Amboy , New Jersey ) is an American composer and music librarian .

Life

Hardish studied music from 1978 to 1984 at Queens College, City University of New York , Juilliard School , Bennington College and Columbia University . His teachers include William Schimmel , Louis Calabro , Juan Lèmann , Otto Luening , Hugo Weisgall , Jacob Druckman , Frank Lewin , Howard Shanet and Harvey Sollberger . He also studied library and information science at the Pratt Institute .

He worked at the Jewish Theological Seminary and the Virginia Center for the Creative Arts. He has lectured at New York University and the Governor's Schools in Virginia. As a guest composer he worked for the radio stations WNYC and WKCR at Columbia University. He was awarded the Margaret Fairbanks Jory Coyping Assistance Program Award from the American Music Center. Hardish worked on the editorial board of New Music Connoisseur magazine. Together with Joseph Pehrson, he founded the Composers Concordance in New York. His music has been performed in the US, Europe, Brazil and Japan.

Hardish works as a librarian at the New York Public Library .
