Joseph Petit (musician)

Joseph Petit (* 1873 or 1880 in New Orleans , Louisiana ; † 1946 there ) was an American jazz musician ( trombone ).

Live and act

Petit was a member of the Olympia Orchestra , the Camelia Brass Band and the Terminal Brass Band . Shortly before the First World War , he founded his own formation, the Security Orchestra .

Petit played with Sidney Bechet , Henry "Booker T." Glass , Wooden Joe Nicholas , Kid Sheik Cola , Arthur Ogle and King Oliver , among others . With some of these he was also briefly under contract with American Music Records .

Around 1900, Petit met BB Crawford's widow. He married her and adopted her son Joseph , who later also became a musician.
