Joseph Romain-Desfossés

Joseph Romain-Desfossés (born December 8, 1798 in Gouesnou , Finistère department , †  October 26, 1864 in Paris ) was a French admiral and minister of the navy .

Desfossés became a ship's captain in 1830 and in 1844 concluded a friendship and trade treaty between France and Muscat . In addition, in 1846 he established trade relations on the coast of East Africa . After the February Revolution of 1848 Desfossés became Rear Admiral and was Minister of the Navy from October 31, 1849 to January 10, 1851.

In 1853 Desfossés was promoted to Vice Admiral and was also a member of the Admiralty Council . In 1854 he took over the chairmanship of the Council for Naval Buildings and in 1855 became a senator .

After Desfossés had bombed the forts of Tetuan in November 1859 as commander of the French Mediterranean fleet because of an insult to the French flag by the Moroccans, he became an admiral in 1860.
