Joseph Spohr

Joseph Spohr (* 6. September 1905 in Paderborn , † 25. October 1979 in Duisburg ) was a German jurist and inland port - Manager .

Life

Born in Paderborn, Joseph Spohr spent his youth and school days in Wesel . Here he graduated from high school and initially worked as a volunteer at the ceramic works there. In the summer semester of 1925 he went to study chemistry at the Technical University Berlin-Charlottenburg and in the same semester joined the Corps Saxonia-Berlin. After two semesters, he switched to studying law at the Humboldt University in Berlin . In 1927 he moved to the Westphalian Wilhelms University in Münster. Here he passed the first state examination in law in 1930 . In 1931 he was supported by the University of Erlangen with a thesis on the topic About the effective date of receiving requiring declarations of intent to Dr. jur. PhD. In 1934 he passed the second state examination in law.

After a brief activity as an associate lawyer, he switched to the Duisburg-Ruhrorter Häfen Aktiengesellschaft as a lawyer . In 1937 he received power of attorney and in 1938 became the company's first lawyer. After participating in World War II as a soldier and as a Soviet prisoner of war , he returned to his old position in 1947. In 1950 he was appointed to the executive board of Duisburg-Ruhrorter Häfen AG. Until his retirement he represented the departments of human resources, law and finance. For many years he was a member of the board of the Federal Association of Public Inland Ports and the board of the Lower Rhine Chamber of Commerce and Industry Duisburg-Wesel.

Awards

Joseph Spohr was awarded the Federal Cross of Merit, 1st class, for his special services to the inland port economy in Germany during the reconstruction phase after the Second World War .
