Joseph d'Haussonville , origin. Joseph Othenin Bernard de Cléron, comte d'Haussonville , (born May 27, 1809 in Paris , † May 28, 1884 ibid) was a French politician and historian.

Life

D'Haussonville was a son of the couple of France Charles Louis Bernard de Cléron, comte d'Haussonville († 1846). He became a member of the diplomatic corps at an early age and represented his country a. a. in Brussels, Turin and Naples.

During the July Monarchy , d'Haussonville was elected to the Chamber in 1842 . Politically committed, he distinguished himself as a speaker on various occasions. After the February Revolution he retired into private life and did not go public until 1869. In the elections of 1869 he ran as a candidate for the opposition to the Empire, but was not elected. Was married d'Haussonville with Louise-Albertine (1818-1882), a daughter of the Duke Victor de Broglie . His wife was a writer a. a. known from novels such as "Robert Emmet", "La Jeunesse de Lord Byron" and "Les dernières années de Lord Byron".

D'Haussonville repeatedly addressed the history of his country. In addition to his regular articles for newspapers and magazines such as Revue des Deux Mondes , he also did this in works that were highly praised by contemporary critics.

In 1869, the Académie française d'Haussonville elected to replace the late Jean Pons Viennet on Fauteuil 22 . After the Franco-Prussian War he was largely responsible for the settlement of emigrated Alsatians and Lorraine residents in Algeria. During this time, d'Haussonville was one of the leading members of France's revenge party. From 1878 he counted as a member of the right-wing center to the "Senators for life".
