Joseph von Henikstein
Joseph Ritter von Henikstein (* 1768 in Leimen ; † April 29, 1838 in Vienna ) was an Austrian merchant and banker. He was an art patron and a friend of Wolfgang Amadeus Mozart .
His father, the Viennese wholesaler Adam Albert Hönig, was ennobled as "Edler von Henikstein" after converting from Judaism to Catholicism in 1784 . From 1807 Joseph was "Edler von Henikstein". Josef von Henikstein was married to Elisabeth von Sonnenstein (1770–1823). The daughter Caroline (1797–1844) married Joseph Freiherr Hammer von Purgstall , the well-known diplomat and translator of oriental literature. The daughter Henriette (1801–1843) was a well-known painter of miniature portraits and a student of Moritz Daffinger , she was married to the industrialist Karl Wilhelm Brevillier . His youngest son was the Austrian Lieutenant Field Marshal Alfred von Henikstein .
Joseph von Henikstein was the kk privileged wholesaler and owner of Henikstein and Comp. , as well as one of the first directors of the Austrian National Bank founded in 1818 . In his two houses in the center of Vienna and on his country estate in Oberdöbling there were often house concerts, where prominent musicians played music together with family members.
