Ludwig Brevillier (born November 15, 1800 in Vienna , † February 12, 1855 in Vienna) was an Austrian industrialist.

Life

Ludwig Brevillier was the son of Alexander Brevillier (1759-1808) and Henriette-Charlotte Brevillier, née Freiin von Ferber (1768-1845). The parents came from a Huguenot family and had moved from Frankfurt am Main to Vienna in the 1780s , where the father worked as a partner in Moritz Reichsgraf von Fries . Henriette-Charlotte Brevillier had a friendship with Johann Wolfgang von Goethe in her youth . The family lived in the Palais Fries, now known as Palais Pallavicini . Ludwig had four siblings, the older brother Karl Wilhelm (1793–1840), the sisters Maria Anna (1792–1828) and Henriette (1791–1833), as well as the sister Louise-Victoire (1789–1846), the one right in Vienna was a well-known pianist .

Ludwig Brevillier worked in Manchester from 1819 to 1830 before joining the company of his older brother Karl Wilhelm, Brevillier & Comp. entered as a partner. In 1823, Karl Wilhelm founded the kk wood and metal screw factory in Neunkirchen, Lower Austria, the first company of this type in the monarchy . They also owned a cotton spinning mill in Schwadorf and a mechanical weaving mill in Margarethen am Moos . Karl Wilhelm Brevillier was married to Henriette Brevillier (1801–1843), a then well-known painter of miniature portraits and a student of Moritz Daffinger . Henriette Brevillier was a daughter of the banker Joseph von Henikstein .

After the death of his brother, Ludwig took over the company completely and expanded it considerably. The production area was also expanded to include barrel and sheet metal rivets and various gear wheels . From 1829 he was also allowed to manufacture iron castings and from 1845 wires. After Ludwig's death, who was single and had no children, his nephew Heinrich Trenck von Tonder (1812–1887) - son of Louise-Victoire from her marriage to the entrepreneur Moritz Trenck von Tonder (1786–1855) - became a universal heir and company manager . Ludwig Brevillier is buried at the Sankt Marxer Friedhof , on the tombstone the date of birth is November 9th, 1800.

Ludwig Brevillier received awards for his products at numerous trade exhibitions.
