Joseph von Lassolaye

Josef von Lassolaye (born April 4, 1746 in Gernsbach , † March 22, 1822 in Rastatt ; full name and alternative spelling : Joseph Valerius Ignaz Anton Johannes Nepomuk Freiherr von Lassollaye ) was a German district director and State Councilor .

After studying law at the University of Strasbourg from 1762, he entered the margravial civil service, initially as a councilor . In 1792 he became Obervogt , in 1805 Landvogt of the County of Eberstein and District Director of Baden and Rastatt.

On October 10, 1773, he married his wife Maria Anna in Völkersbach , who bore him eleven children. Lassolaye died on March 22, 1822 in Rastatt; his grave is in his birthplace Gernsbach.

Honorary citizen of the city of Baden-Baden

Lassolaye owned several pieces of land in the city of Baden and promoted tourism in the city, in particular road construction. After the merger of the Baden Lyceum with the Piarist School in Rastatt in 1808, he bought the college building for 20,000 guilders, which was redesigned by Friedrich Weinbrenner into the first spa house with a casino. On July 27, 1812, the Grand Ducal Bathing Establishment Commission bought his estate , which was on the left side of the Oos, from him for 18,000 guilders, as "the acquisition was useful for a Baad facility". According to Weinbrenner's plans to modernize the spa town , the new spa house with casino , the spa garden and the drinking hall were built there . Because of his services to the city, he was awarded the first honorary citizenship on April 9, 1811 .
