history
The Jesuit College was founded by the Jesuit Order in 1622 as part of the introduction of the Counter Reformation in the Margraviate of Baden-Baden by Margrave Wilhelm von Baden . With the abolition of the order by Pope Clement XIV in 1773, the college was converted into a secular lyceum and theology studies were made possible. In 1808 the Baden Lyceum was merged with the Piarist School in Rastatt . Baden-Baden's first honorary citizen Josef von Lassolaye bought the college building for 20,000 guilders . Friedrich Weinbrenner converted it into a conversation house in 1809 . A casino opened there on June 16, 1812 under the supervision of the authorities . After they moved to the newly built right wing of the Kurhaus on the left side of the Oos , the building complex finally became the town hall and the seat of the city administration in 1862. In 1938 another renovation took place.
