Josephine Kratelli (* 28. October 1950 in Budapest as Jozefina Krateyl ) is a Hungarian singer . She comes from a circus family . Her preferred musical genre is somewhere between jazz and funk .

Life

Kratelli's parents were artists with whom she traveled through various European countries as a child. Even at that time she was enthusiastic about music. After attending general school, she attended a technical school for artists ( Artistaképző Intézet ) and focused her education on music. Her favorite instruments were guitar and saxophone . At that time she was already working as a musician with her brother. She also took singing lessons from Stefi Ákos . After completing her education, she toured with her parents in Bulgaria , Mongolia and the Soviet Union, among others . On her return to Hungary she performed in Budapest in the Kamara Varieté and in the Maxim Varieté with other well-known artists such as Pál Szécsi, György Korda, Cecília Esztergályos and András Payer. Performances in Yugoslavia , Denmark , Belgium and the GDR followed in the second half of the 1970s and 1980s . In 2000 she formed her own band, the Josephine Music Company . Two years later the album Tűzön-vízen át was released by Hungaroton . The album Új világ followed in 2006, which was released on her own label and was awarded a gold record . In 2007 she received the Fonogram Prize ( Fonogram díj ) in the National Jazz Album of the Year category for this album . Among her best-known pieces are Ülj le and Új világ , which can be heard regularly on Hungarian radio.
