Joshua William "Josh" Dun (born June 18, 1988 in Columbus , Ohio ) is an American musician and, along with singer Tyler Joseph , member and drummer of the duo Twenty One Pilots .

life and career

Joshua William Dun was born in Columbus on June 18, 1988 to Laura Lee Dun and William Earl Dun . There he grew up in a Christian home with two sisters, Ashley Bonnie Lee and Abigail Christine, and a brother, Jordan Christopher.

Like Joseph, Dun received homeschooling for some time. As a teenager, his parents forbade him to listen to music, but this did not prevent him from secret trips to the local record store. He taught himself to play the drums by "trying out" the drums in a shop, trying to mimic the music he was hearing. For three years he was an employee of Guitar Center , where former Twenty One Pilots drummer Chris Salih also worked, and in March 2010 he joined the band House of Heroes .

In 2011 Salih introduced him to Tyler Joseph, whereupon Dun and Joseph quickly became friends. After Chris Salih and bandmate Nick Thomas left the band independently a few months later, Josh Dun quit his job at Guitar Center to support Tyler Joseph on a show as a drummer. Just one day later, he officially became the drummer of the Twenty One Pilots and the band became a duo from now on.

He has been married to Debby Ryan since December 31, 2019 .
