Tyler Robert Joseph (born December 1, 1988 in Columbus , Ohio ) is an American singer , rapper , multi-instrumentalist and songwriter . He is a founding member of the band Twenty One Pilots .

life and career

Tyler Joseph was born in Columbus in 1988. He grew up in a conservative and religious household. His father was the director of a Christian high school that Joseph attended. He had previously been tutored at home by his mother, who also subjected him to rigorous basketball training when he expressed her wish to practice this sport.

In 2009 he founded the alternative rock band Twenty One Pilots . He chose the name because he studied the play All My Sons by Arthur Miller in college , in which one of the main characters has to justify the loss of 21 pilots who died in action.

Josh Dun has been the second member of this music duo since 2011 . Joseph had previously released the albums Twenty One Pilots and Regional at Best . The latter was only distributed to fans in the form of a mixtape . He had also written the lyrics to the song Holding on to You long before the first record deal. He has been married to Jenna Black since March 2015. The couple had a daughter in February 2020.
