In this he scored 394 points and placed third behind Pierre Coquelin de Lisle and Marcus Dinwiddie . Between 1921 and 1939 Hartmann won a total of 38 medals at world championships . He secured twelve silver and eleven bronze medals and was world champion 15 times: in 1925, he won the three-position fight in St. Gallen , kneeling and standing with the free rifle, and he also won the team competition with the free rifle in three-position. Two years later he successfully defended his title in all four disciplines in Rome , while in 1928 in Loosduinen he only won the third gold medal in a row in the three-position battle in the team competition. In 1929 he was again world champion in this discipline in the individual and with the team, as well as with the army rifle in the standing position and with the small-bore team in the standing position. He won his last two titles with the team in a three-position battle. In 1933 he was successful with the free rifle in Granada , with the army rifle he won the title in Lucerne in 1939.
