Josip Poklukar (born March 7, 1837 in Krnica , today Gorje municipality , † March 17, 1891 in Ljubljana ) was a Slovenian lawyer and politician . He was a member of the Austrian House of Representatives from 1872 to 1873 and from 1879 to 1891 .

education and profession

Poklukar attended elementary school in Obergöriach in the Radmannsdorf district and in Laibach. He continued his education between 1850 and 1857 at the grammar school in Laibach and studied law at the University of Vienna between 1857 and 1861 . In 1864 he graduated as Dr. iur. at the University of Vienna. Professionally, Poklukar worked as a lawyer trainee in Ljubljana until 1873, after which he took over the supervision of the J. Blasnik'schen book printing plant in Ljubljana in 1873, which was owned by his wife. In 1875 he took over management there, and later also became a partner.

Politics and functions

Poklukar began his political career in the Krainer Landtag , to which he belonged from 1870 until his death. He also became the first Slovenian governor of the Carniola in 1888 and stood up primarily for the economic interests of the Carniola. Within the Slovenian political landscape, he belonged to the Old Slovenes . Poklukar was the first member of the Austrian House of Representatives between January 13, 1872 and February 15, 1873, but his mandate was withdrawn because he did not appear. In 1879 he was re-elected to the House of Representatives in the electoral district of Krainer cities No. 2, after which he was a member of the House of Representatives from October 7, 1879 to January 23, 1891. Poklukar was re-elected in his constituency in 1885. He was a member of the Slovenian National Right Center Club in the House of Representatives.

In addition to his political mandates, Poklukar also served as President of the Ljubljana Chamber of Commerce and Industry between 1889 and 1891, he was also chairman of Slovenska Matica from 1885 to 1886 , from 1890 member of the Agricultural Society for Carniola and in 1890 chairman of the Slovenian-Istrian meeting Member of Parliament in Ljubljana, who agreed to coordinate the representation of the national interests of Slovenes and Croats in the state parliament and the Reichsrat.

Private

Poklukar was born as the son of farmer Andrej Poklukar in Kranica, at that time Gorje Zgornje Municipality (now Gorje Municipality). He married Aleksandrina Blasnik in 1875 and had at least one son.
