Josse Lieferinxe († before 1508 in Marseille ) was a French painter of Flemish or Picardy origin. He belonged to the Provencal school of the fifteenth century and was active between 1493 and 1505 .

He was probably in the Roman Catholic Archdiocese of Cambrai , in the then under Burgundian domination standing County of Hainaut born. In Provence he was known as a “Picard” painter from 1493, especially in Avignon and Marseille. After Barthélemy d'Eyck and Enguerrand Quarton , who also came from northern France and southern Flanders , he was the last great artist of the Avignon School . In 1503 he married Michèle Changenet, the daughter of the painter Jean Changenet , who in Avignon is also considered a great master of this era. Lieferinxe is mentioned alive for the last time in 1505 and died before 1508.

Before he could be clearly identified by the art historian Charles Sterling (1901–1991), Josse Lieferinxe was known as the "Master of Saint Sebastian". In 1497 he painted the altarpiece Saint Sébastien et Saint Roch protecteurs contre la Peste for the Notre-Dame-des-Accoules in Marseille . The altar wall includes a total of eight panel paintings , which are now scattered in several different museums.
