Jost Josef Nager (born April 14, 1813 in Andermatt ; † September 24, 1892 in Lucerne , Catholic ) was a Swiss politician (liberal).

biography

Jost Josef Nager was born on April 14, 1813 in Andermatt as the son of the merchant and Uri Grand Councilor Jost Anton Nager and Franziska née Müller. Nager studied law at the universities of Geneva , Heidelberg , Göttingen and Lausanne . As a result, Nager, Talmann von Ursern , initially worked as an attorney , from 1839 to 1841 as a criminal judge , then until 1847 as a clerk of the higher court , from 1848 to 1857 as a state clerk before he was elected district post director in Lucerne. He held this position until his retirement in 1891.

In addition, Jost Josef Nager was a member of the board of directors of the Luzern-Zürich railway company in 1857 and of the Swiss Central Railway from 1871 to 1875 . He also acted as a member of the Lucerne Chamber of Commerce. Nager made a name for himself as an administrative and economic specialist.

Jost Josef Nager was married to Paulina, the daughter of Josef Schumacher. He died on September 24, 1892, five months after turning 79 in Lucerne.

Political offices

Jost Josef Nager, member of the Liberals, represented his party at the municipal level from 1851 to 1857 and from 1860 to 1875 in the city council of Lucerne. At the cantonal level, he was a member of the Lucerne Grand Council from 1839 to 1841 . In addition, he took a seat on the Council of States for the canton from 1848 to 1849 and from 1854 to 1857 at the federal level .
