Jost Ribary Sr. (* July 18, 1910 in Oberägeri ; † February 21, 1971 ibid) was a composer , conductor , clarinet and saxophone player from Central Switzerland .

Professional career

From the age of fourteen he earned his living as an employee of the Neuägeri spinning mill, factory and construction worker, auxiliary mailman and farmer. In 1933 he became an accordion tuner in Bachenbülach . He took music lessons from the conductor of the local harmony music, in which he also played. Later he expanded his skills in self-study.

His music was the country music . In 1933 he composed the Steiner Chilbi . In the same year he made its world premiere with his Ländlerkapelle at a Chilbi in Steinen in the Swiss canton of Schwyz. His regular musical venue was the Konkordia restaurant in Niederdorf in the city of Zurich . From 1957 he was temporarily accompanied by René Wicky on the accordion from 1959 onwards . Jost Ribary moved into an apartment above the Konkordia restaurant and also tuned accordions there. He also integrated his son Jost Ribary junior in the 1950s. in his Ländlerkapelle. In 1962 he moved back to the Aegerital with his family.

Around 800 melodies were created in his work.
