Josyf Sembratowicz ( Ukrainian : Йосиф Сембратович , Polish : Josyf Sembratowycz ) (born November 8, 1821 in Krynica ; †  October 23, 1900 in Rome ) was metropolitan of the Ukrainian Greek Catholic Church , Archeparchy Lemberg ( Kingdom of Galicia and Lodomeria , today Ukraine ) .

Life

Josyf Sembratowicz was born in 1821. After studying in Vienna, he was ordained a priest on October 7, 1845 . At the age of 44, on March 24, 1865, he was appointed titular bishop of Nazianzus . He was ordained bishop on June 11, 1865 in the St. George's Cathedral in Lviv Spyrydon Lytvynowytsch . He was appointed Archbishop of Lemberg on June 27, 1870. On December 22, 1882, at the age of 62, Josyf Sembratowicz became titular Archbishop of Theodosiopolis due to his retirement .

In the Kingdom of Galicia and Lodomeria , as Lviv Metropolitan, he had a virile vote in the Galician Landtag .

With his help Rome wanted to enforce celibacy in the Greek Uniate Church.

Archbishop Sembratowicz died in Rome in 1900 at the age of 79.
