Jovan Ružić

Jovan Ružić (born December 12, 1898 in Belgrade , Kingdom of Serbia , † September 25, 1973 in Belgrade, Yugoslavia ) was a Serbian and Yugoslav football player , referee and sports official . He was the first Serbian Yugoslav national soccer player . With the Yugoslav national football team, he took part in the 1920 Summer Olympics in Belgium .

history

Ružić started playing football at the Belgrade club Srpski mac . In 1913 he was a founding member of SK Velika Srbija , where he played his first official game at the age of 15. He later moved to France , where he played at AS Saint-Étienne and OGC Nice . As the first Serbian football player in France, Ružić was known as a boulet de canon (English cannon ball) due to his hard shot and was considered a crowd favorite. In 1919 he returned to Serbia and started playing for SK Jugoslavija . Ružić stayed there for five years and played 120 games. He later became a referee and sports official. In 1925 Ružić successfully completed his law studies at the University of Belgrade .
