Joy Angela Villa (born April 25, 1991 in Orange , California ) is an American actress and rock singer who became known to a wider audience through her appearances at the Grammy Awards and her adoration of US President Donald Trump .

life and career

Joy Villa grew up in California as the daughter of an Italian-Argentine father and an African-American mother .

Villa had her first stage experience at the age of five in a theater. Later in her youth, she appeared as a presenter on Youth Network TV , a regional Californian niche program, and was also seen as a small actor in various film and TV productions. Occasionally she worked behind the scenes (costume assistant, producer).

Musically, she first drew attention to herself in the early 2010s. One of her first independent releases was the song Cold Wind in 2011 . In July 2014 the EP I Make the Static was released . Neither their singles nor their EP were able to place in the US charts or attract more attention at the time of publication.

From 2015, Villa was a regular guest at the Grammy Awards .

After she appeared in an orange fishnet dress in 2015 and in a rib-shaped black costume in 2016 and was more conspicuous for her freedom of movement, from 2017 she began to design her outfits with provocative political statements.

In 2017, for example, she wore a blue and white dress with red stripes (colors of the US flag) on which the name of the recently elected US President Donald Trump and his campaign slogan Make America Great Again could be read. The great publicity of this performance led to a brief high demand for their EP I Make the Static , which was released in 2014 . Within a few days, the EP was sold around 26,500 times and streamed 150,000 times, making it number 12 on the US album charts . The following week, the EP dropped straight out of the top 200 due to a lack of sales and streaming.

The Daily Beast website discovered that Villa didn't post a single positive tweet about Donald Trump prior to the 2017 Grammys , calling her a "troll". Left-liberal circles also referred to her appearance as "seeking attention", while conservative and right-wing media praised it. She has been invited to a number of conservative talk shows (such as Sean Hannity and Tucker Carlson ) as a guest. She said that in the run-up to the 2016 presidential election, she initially supported Bernie Sanders and voted for Barack Obama in the previous election .

From 2017, she released other singles with patriotic content (including the title Make America Great Again!) And the EP Home Sweet Home , which, however, remained commercially unsuccessful and did not appear in the charts.

At the Grammy Awards 2018, she appeared with a white dress depicting a fetus in the uterus and a handbag with the anti-abortion message "Choose life!" .

In 2019 she wore a silver dress with the pattern of a wall, the red inscription "Build The Wall!" on the back and a collar made of metal wires that resembled barbed wire. On her head she wore a crown with sharp spikes, which should symbolize the Statue of Liberty . In her hand she held a red purse with the slogan Make America Great Again . The FAZ ruled that Villa was a "not particularly talented vocalist" and described her music as "soulless rumbling". She tries "plump", "to open up the gap in the market" Trump fan "for her musical career".

Joy Villa is a vegan , also active as a nutritionist and also an avowed Scientologist .
