The GDR footballer of the year was awarded the Silver Football Boot 1968 for the sixth time . The editors of the magazine Die neue Fußballwoche had carried out a survey to choose the best player of the 1967/68 season , in which a total of 47 sports editors in the GDR took part and the six best footballers with points (ten points for the favorite, for the others Places in descending order seven, five, three, two and one point). The highest total number of points was achieved by Bernd Bransch , who was awarded the silver soccer shoe as Footballer of the Year on July 6, 1968 in the Kurt Wabbel Stadium .
