Joy Womack

from Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia

Joy Annabel Womack , Russian Джой Аннабель Вомак (* 1994 in Santa Monica , California ) is an American ballet dancer .

Life

Joy Womack, the daughter of an entrepreneur and an oncologist , grew up pious and sheltered with her eight siblings in a Christian community. Her enthusiasm for dance showed at an early age, so that at the age of 9 she began her training with Yvonne Mounsey, a dancer trained by George Balanchine at the Westside School of Ballet in Santa Monica. Private lessons with the prominent Russian ballet master Yuri Grigoriev were soon added.

In 2006, Womack's family moved to Austin and Womack enrolled at the Vaganova- near Austin School of Classical Ballet . In 2007 she accepted the scholarship offered to her for the Kirov Academy of Ballet of Washington, DC , where she received the traditional, physically and psychologically tough Russian training. However, their performance was assessed as insufficient there. In the summer of 2009 she was able to take part in the master class held by the Bolshoi Ballet Academy in New York under the direction of Nathalia Archipowas. Archipova then asked her to continue her education in Moscow . She accepted the invitation, moved to Moscow and continued her education at the Bolshoi Ballet Academy, graduating in 2012 as one of the best. Despite this, she received no roles in the Bolshoi Ballet, so that she finally left the Bolshoi Ballet in 2013, also in view of the intrigues there. In 2014, the director of the Kremlin Ballet Andrei Petrov hired her as a prima ballerina .

Her repertoire includes Giselle and Myrtha in Giselle , Mascha in The Nutcracker , Odette / Odile in Swan Lake , Kitri in Don Quichotte , Gamzatti in La Bayadère , The Pas de Deux by Diana and Acteon , the Pas de Deux from Le Corsaire , the Queen the night in Die Zauberflöte and Princess Budur in Arabian Nights .
