The JuMZ-6 ( Ukrainian ЮМЗ-6 ) is a Soviet and later Ukrainian tractor that was produced in Juschny Maschinostroitelny Sawod (elnжмаш or Juschmasch for short) from 1969/70 . It is very similar to the MTZ-50 from the Minski Traktorny Sawod and has often been converted for use as a tractor excavator. In a little more than 30 years of production, over 1.15 million copies were made in various versions.

Juschmasch began manufacturing tractors as early as 1953. Initially, models from the Minski Traktorny Sawod were made: from 1953 the MTZ-2 and then the MTZ-5 . The latter was built in Juschny Maschinostroitelny Sawod until 1972.

The information about when the serial production of the successor named JuMZ-6 started fluctuating slightly. While some sources state 1969 as the first year of construction, other places also mention 1970 or 1971. In the first phase, the vehicle was very similar to the MTZ-50 , but had a more powerful engine with a slightly larger displacement and a differently designed bonnet. Two versions were initially built, which differed in the starter used . Both models with an electric starter and a small single-cylinder gasoline engine were built. The latter has the advantage of working without a battery even in cold temperatures.

Various revisions of the model followed over the years, especially in 1978/79 and 1986. From 1986 vehicles with a new cabin were delivered. It has the same strength as the new cabin of the MTZ-80 , but differs in various details. The radiator grille and bonnet were also replaced by angular parts over time. The vehicles were often painted green and given a white cabin.

Different model versions were not built for use in agriculture, but for industry. In particular, tractor excavators were manufactured that were equipped with an excavator arm at the rear and a dozer blade at the front. The machines produced under the designation EO-2621A (round cabin) and EO-2621B (already new cabin) reached the GDR in large quantities and were particularly popular for amelioration . The unit cost in 1975 was around 50,000 GDR marks .

From 1985 the designation of some model versions changed to JuMZ-611 . After the collapse of the Soviet Union , individual models were also equipped with all-wheel drive. In 2001 the production of the vehicle was stopped after more than 30 years. At least 1,150,100 JuMZ-6s of all variants were built.

Model variants

Unlike other Soviet tractors, the JuMZ-6 was revised more often during the long construction period. Various different versions were created over the years. The following list does not claim to be complete. In different sources there are slightly different statements about how long the individual model variants were built.

  • JuMZ-6L - First built version, manufactured from 1969/70 to 1978 or 1979. No electric starter, but with a single-cylinder two-stroke petrol engine as the starter. Still with a round bonnet and a small cabin.
  • JuMZ-6M - Corresponds to the JuMZ-6L, but equipped with an electric starter and partly only with a light weather cover.
  • JuMZ-6AL - built from 1978/79 to 1986, with revised cabin, petrol starter and angular bonnet.
  • JuMZ-6AM - Like JuMZ-6AL, with an electric starter.
  • JuMZ-6K - industrial version without three-point suspension for agricultural implements. Instead, fastening parts for a dozer blade and an excavator arm were attached so that the vehicle can be equipped as a tractor excavator. Built from 1986 to 1993.
  • JuMZ-6KL - built, special function unknown.
  • JuMZ-6KM - Version manufactured from 1991 with a new cabin.
  • JuMZ-6AKM - exact construction period unknown. From 1993 with adjustable steering column and improved windows.
  • JuMZ-6AKL - As JuMZ-6AKM, exact changes unknown.
  • JuMZ-6STL - Model built from 1990 with a modified cabin (similar to LTS-55 ) and a more powerful engine with now 65 HP. Built until 2001.

From 1985 onwards, the models were also referred to as the JuMZ-6XX:

  • JuMZ-611K - built from 1985, with new cab and starter motor, equipped for agriculture.
  • JuMZ-611M - built from 1985, like JuMZ-611K, with electric starter.
  • JuMZ-611KLM - from 1986 built variant with all-wheel drive and starter engine.
  • JuMZ-611KLN - As JuMZ-611KL, but with an electric starter.
  • JuMZ-650 - Corresponds to JuMZ-6STL.
  • JuMZ-652 - JuMZ-650 equipped with all-wheel drive , also manufactured from 1990 to 2001.

There were also models with high portal axes that could be used in vineyards , for example.
