Francesco Paolucci

Francesco Paolucci (born August 1581 in Forlì ; † July 9, 1661 in Rome ) was an Italian cardinal of the Roman Church .

Life

He was the second of four children of Giovanni Paolucci and his wife Bernardina Maseri. At the age of twelve he went to Rome at the request of his uncle Fabrizio Paolucci. Cardinal Cesare Baronio took over his upbringing , with whom he developed a close friendship. Francesco Paolucci studied literature and later (around 1605) law . He gained a great reputation in the Roman Curia for his successful representation in legal matters. During the pontificate of Paul V he became auditor of the Cardinal Chamberlain of the Roman Church .

He rejected all offers from episcopal offices on the part of Pope Gregory XV. and Urban VIII . As House Prelate of His Holiness he entered the service of the Apostolic Signature on April 20, 1626 . In 1627 he became secretary of the Council Congregation , a position he held for 30 years. Urban VIII intended to make him cardinal but died before he could pronounce the appointment.

In the consistory of April 9, 1657, Pope Alexander VII appointed him cardinal priest and on April 23, 1657 conferred the cardinal's hat and the titular church of San Giovanni a Porta Latina . On April 9 of the same year he was appointed Prefect of the Council Congregation and remained so until his death.

His tomb is in front of the main altar of the Santa Maria in Vallicella church in Rome

His nephew Stefano Agostini and his great-nephew Fabrizio Paolucci also became cardinals.
