Juan Antonio Marín (born March 2, 1975 in San José ) is a former Costa Rican tennis player .

Career

Marín, who was born in San José , initially played under the Spanish flag after starting his career, having moved to Spain with his parents at the age of fourteen. In 1998 he decided to compete for his home country Costa Rica in the future .

In the course of his career, Marín celebrated some successes on the second-rate Challenger Tour . He won five singles titles and another doubles alongside Juan Martín del Potro . On the ATP Tour he was also able to win an individual title and was also in another final. Both times he managed to do this at the tournament in Båstad : in 1997 he was still defeated by Magnus Norman before he was able to defeat Andreas Vinciguerra two years later . In Grand Slam tournaments , he never got past the first round, although he had a total of 17 participations in individual competitions. He reached his highest single placement in the world rankings on October 11, 1999 with position 55. In doubles he reached rank 188 in February 2007.

In 2000 he took part in the Summer Olympics in Atlanta . He only competed in the individual competition, where he met Yevgeny Kafelnikov in the opening round . Against the later gold medalist, Marín had no chance, he lost clearly 0: 6, 1: 6.

Marín played a total of 10 games for the Costa Rican Davis Cup team between 1999 and 2006 . While his individual balance is positive with 9: 4 wins, his double balance is negative with 3: 6 wins.
