Juan Francisco Ordóñez (born October 4, 1961 ) is a guitarist from Santo Domingo , Dominican Republic . He is considered to be the innovator of the language of the Bachata guitar, a mixture of blues, rock and jazz with a special style.

Life

Ordóñez graduated from Colegio Dominicano De la Salle and later graduated from Universidad Autónoma de Santo Domingo with a degree in economics .
At the age of eleven he got guitar lessons from Blas Carrasco for the first time, later he taught himself more. He also took composition lessons from Sonia de Piña at the Dominican National Conservatory.

From 1976 to 1977 Ordóñez was part of the folk group "Convite", which was a very important force in the rescue and transformation of Dominican folklore in the 1970s.

In the early 1980s he founded the rock group Transporte Urbano with Luis Días , of which he was lead guitarist for almost 25 years. In 1985 Ordóñez traveled to Moscow, the old Soviet Union, where he had several concerts with Patricia Pereira and Luís Días. During this time Ordóñez also began a number of other projects, such as the influential guitar / bass / drums trio "OFS" with drummer Guy Frómeta and the former bassist of Transporte Urbano, Héctor Santana. With this lineup they went to Peru in 1986 to play together with the Dominican singer Sonia Silvestre at the “Festival de la Nueva Canción Latinoamericana”. In the 1990s he founded the Caribbean trio "Trilogia", again together with Héctor Santana and supplemented by the drummer Chichi Peralta . He is currently musical director for the group "La Vellonera", which supports the Dominican singer and songwriter Víctor Víctor live.

Ordóñez also led a solo career, working as an arranger and director of advertising jingles and film music, such as in Frente al Mar about a story by the Dominican writer Hilma Contreras or in León Ichaso's Bitter Sugar .

Ordoñez has long been a sought-after studio and live guitarist for artists and groups in the Dominican Republic, Latin America and Spain. He also took part in jam sessions with such renowned jazz musicians as Paquito de Rivera, Don Cherry and Charlie Haden . He has also been a guitar teacher for several generations of Dominican guitarists.

In 2005 Ordóñez was co-producer, arranger and guitarist on the album Bachata Entre Amigos by Víctor Víctor, which included composers Joaquín Sabina , Joan Manuel Serrat , Pedro Guerra , Silvio Rodríguez , Pablo Milanés , Fito Páez and Víctor Manuel participated.
