Judge is a US hardcore punk band from New York City . It is considered one of the most influential groups on the New York straight edge scene and existed from 1987 to 1991. In 2013 the reunion was announced.
Band history
After Mike Ferraro left Youth of Today , he founded the group Judge together with John Porcell (also Youth of Today / Project X ). The first single New York Crew was recorded by him on drums and vocals and Porcell on bass and electric guitar alone and originally released on Porcell's label Schism . In the underground came hardcore punk with influences from metal and Oi! in combination with militant, hard texts very well. In particular, the cover version of the Blitz song Warriors and the title song should become live classics.
They then signed with Revelation Records and released the single in a newly recorded version under the direction of Don Fury . For the first album, Sammy Siegler (the successor to Ferraro on Youth of Today) got in. The first recorded version was very bad because the band was under pressure: Porcell had a long-lasting European tour with Youth of Today ahead of them. The band discarded this version, but the record company released it under the title Chung King Can Suck it . The actual debut LP Bringing It Down was released a short time later, produced by Don Fury and with Matt Pinkus on bass.
On a large-scale tour there were repeated riots. Many gigs ended in wild brawls and had to be canceled. Disgusted by the hardcore scene and Revelation Records business policies, Ferraro decided to break up the group. An EP called There Will Be Quiet including a Led Zeppelin cover When the Levy Breaks was the group's final release.
In 2005 a discography CD entitled What It Meant: The Complete Discography was released via Revelation Records. Mike Ferraro later released an acoustic album called Sights on Revelation Records under the name Mike Judge and Old Smoke . In 2009, John Porcell founded the band Bringing It Down , which mainly covered Judge songs live. In 2009 the group went on a European tour with Bold .
The band has performed at irregular intervals since 2013 and occasionally goes on smaller tours. The line-up was supplemented by a second guitarist in the form of Charlie Garriga (ex- CIV , ex- Quicksand ), who also plays with the Gorilla Biscuits at the same time .
