Judicaël Perroy (born July 21, 1973 in Paris ) is a French guitarist and guitar teacher.

Youth and education

Perroy inherited his enthusiasm for playing the guitar from his father. At the age of seven he began his training at the Conservatoire Municipal Inter-Arrondissements de Paris . Already in these early years he had a kind of enlightenment after his stories: "All of a sudden I understood how the instrument works." In 1983 he switched to the Conservatoire de Musique (Conservatoire à rayonnement départemental) in Aulnay-sous-Bois , a Suburb of Paris . There he learned from Delia Estrada, Roberto Aussel and Raymond Gratien. He was considered a child prodigy. At the age of eleven he played two Vivaldi concerts as a soloist together with a full orchestra under the direction of André Girard at the Theater du Mans in Le Mans .

Career

A second prize at the International Competition of the Ile-de-France in 1988 was the real start of his career. In 1988 he graduated with summa cum laude and received the first prize of the academy. He continued his studies privately with Pablo Márquez, then with Roberto Aussel and Daniel Lavialle. At the university he first took courses in economics and mathematics and interrupted playing guitar for two years. At the age of 19, a few weeks before the 15ème Concours International de guitarre René Bartoli , at the urging of Raymond Gratien, he started playing again and won the Grand Jury Prize and the Audience Prize. He then graduated from the École Normale de Musique de Paris (1994). There he studied with Alberto Ponce . In the same year he acquired his License de Concert and took part in the 7th International Guitar Competition of Bourg-Madame , where he again won the audience award. In 1996 he received first prize in the senior class of the Conservatoire National de Musique et de Dance de Paris and gained international renown by first prize at the Guitar Foundation of America International Solo Competition held in La Jolla , California in 1997 . The award included a concert tour of sixty cities in North America in 1998. Since then he has given concerts worldwide and is a professor of guitar. Some of his students have won prizes themselves, including Thomas Viloteau .

Teaching

Perroy lives in Paris. He is professor of classical guitar in several music schools: Pôle Superiour 93 Seine-Saint-Denis-Île-de-France ( Aubervilliers , 2012–); L'Association de préfiguration du Pôle Superiour d'enseignements artistiques (apPSEA), Lille (Nord-Pas-de-Calais, 2010–); L'École Nationale de Musique d'Aulnay-sous-Bois (2004–).

Recordings

Perroy mainly plays works by classical composers such as Bach , Mauro Giuliani , Handel and Isaac Albéniz , but his repertoire also includes modern pieces ( Piazzola , Nũnez, Nikita Koshkin ). His transcription of Bach's second Partita in C minor, BWV 826, a major work for the classical guitar, was released on Naxos Records in 2010 as part of an All-Bach CD.
