Judith Durham AO (born Judith Mavis Cock on July 3, 1943 in Essendon / Melbourne ) is an Australian singer, musician, singer-songwriter and composer. She was a founding member and lead singer of the pop-folk group The Seekers, founded in Melbourne in 1963 and particularly successful in Great Britain .

Life

Judith Durham was born in Essendon in 1943. Musically, she began as a jazz singer before co-founding the Seekers and celebrating international success with them. At the farewell concert on July 7, 1968 in London , she sang solo The Olive Tree , a track that Tom Springfield and Diane Lampert had composed for her and which she had released as a solo single the previous year.

During her following solo career, Judith Durham released the music albums For Christmas With Love , Gift Of Song and Climb Ev'ry Mountain .

She married her music director in Melbourne on November 21, 1969 , the British pianist Ron Edgeworth, who had previously worked with The John Barry Seven , and continued to work with him as a group. Both lived in Great Britain and Switzerland until the mid- 1980s . He played the piano and she sang. Edgeworth died on December 10, 1994 at the age of 56.

The Seekers, dissolved in 1968, continued to work with a new singer, but without much success. It wasn't until 1994, after a little over 25 years, that Judith returned to the Seekers, and the success continued. At the end of the 2000 Olympic Games in Sydney , the Seekers were planned with The Carnival Is Over , but had to cancel due to an injury to Judith Durham. The Seekers embarked on a tour of Australia in May 2013, which ended with a concert in November 2013. Her last concert tour with the Seekers so far took Durham through England in early summer 2014 and to New Zealand in November of the same year.
