Jack Halberstam
Jack Halberstam , also formerly Judith Halberstam or J. Jack Halberstam , (born December 15, 1961 ) is an American English graduate and professor at the University of Southern California . He is considered one of the most prominent theorists in North America in the field of gender and queer studies .
Life
Halberstam graduated from the University of California, Berkeley with a BA in English in 1985 . The Master he received in English Literature in 1989 at the University of Minnesota , where he in 1991 received his doctorate ( Ph.D. ).
After completing his studies, Halberstam was employed as a professor for literature at the University of California, San Diego (UCSD) until 2003 , and in 2004 he moved to the University of Southern California (USC) in Los Angeles , where he became a professor for American Studies and Ethnicity and Gender Studies holds. He has written several books and articles on gender and queer theory topics.
His research interests include cultural studies , queer theory , visual studies (Visual Culture), showers literature (Gothic Literature) and horror movie , pop culture , film and video , Feminist Theory and Gender Studies.
Halberstam became known with his publication Female Masculinity , a study that deals for the first time with the subject of " masculinity in women " in book length. Here he examines their flowing gender diversity, from the lesbian butch / femme roles to transgender "dykes" and dragkings and thus offers an independent alternative to the masculinity of men .
