Juhu (Mumbai)

Juhu ( Marathi : जुहू , Juhū [ ˈʤuɦuː ]) is a district in the west of the Indian metropolis of Mumbai , in the Mumbai Suburban district . It is famous for its huge beach, Juhu Beach. To the west of Juhu is the Arabian Sea , to the east Santacruz and Vile Parle. It is one of the affluent areas in Mumbai. The film actors Ajay Devgan , Amitabh Bachchan , Amrish Puri and many other Indian celebrities own houses in Juhu.

Juhu Beach is the most famous beach in Mumbai. It is located about 18 kilometers from the city center, on the Arabian Sea in the Juhu district. At the southern end of Juhu Beach there are numerous hotels, apartment houses and shops. There are three main entrances, one in Vile Parle, another in Santacruz and a third in Andheri . Many Mumbai tourists also visit the beach, and often many children play cricket , soccer, and basketball on the beach during the summer vacation . Performances by street artists and acrobats can be seen daily on the five-kilometer-long sandy beach.

Juhu Aerodrome

The Juhu Aerodrome is an airport in the south of the Juhu district. In 1928 it was opened as the first civil airport. Currently, only one runway is operated by the Airports Authority of India . The chase scene at the beginning of the Oscar-nominated film Slumdog Millionaire (2008) was filmed on the airport grounds.

The slum in Juhu is about 135,000 m². It is one of the liveliest slums in Mumbai, with around 1 million people living in it alone. In the north it borders on Vaikunthlal Meta Road, in the south on Juhu Aerodrome, and in the south-west on a lake in the grounds of the Juhu Aerodrome.
