Jules Guérin (medic)

Jules René Guérin (born March 11, 1801 in Boussu , Belgium , † January 25, 1886 in Hyères / Département Var , France ) was a Belgian-French surgeon and orthopedic surgeon .

Live and act

He studied at the University of Leuven from 1821 to 1826, received his doctorate on August 4, 1826 at the Sorbonne in Paris, took over the Gazette de la santé in 1828 , renamed it Gazette médicale de Paris in 1830 and made it the most important French specialist journal. In 1839 Guérin founded the important orthopedic establishment La Muette de Passy , and he had a considerable influence on the redesign of orthopedics .

In 1837 he won a prize for the best orthopedic work from the Academy for his work in sixteen volumes with 400 illustrations. The same was never published in full, but a number of individual selected chapters came to print by 1841. In 1853 he was elected a member of the Leopoldina . In 1839 Guérin was introduced by Félix Édouard Guérin-Méneville as member number 179 of the Société cuviérienne .
