Yulian Semyonov ( Russian Юлиан Семёнович Семёнов , actually Julian Semjonowitsch Ljandres ( Юлиан Семёнович Ляндрес ) * 8. October 1931 in Moscow , Soviet Union ; † 5. September 1993 ) was a Soviet writer and screenwriter .

Life

Semjonow, son of the journalist Semjon Ljandres , studied Oriental Studies in Moscow and then taught Pashto in 1954 at Moscow's Lomonosov University . From 1955 he worked as a journalist, especially as a correspondent for the magazine Ogonyok under editor-in-chief Anatoly Sofronow . From 1962 to 1967 he was a member of the editorial board of the Moscow magazine . From the end of the 1950s he also emerged as an author of detective novels and adventure stories.

His cycle of novels, published from 1966 onwards, about the fictional Soviet spy Maxim Isajew, who was SS standard leader Max Otto von Stierlitz ( Штирлиц ) in Europe during the Second World War , became particularly popular . This cycle includes the novels Parole not necessary ( Пароль не нужен , 1966, filmed in 1967 by Boris Grigoryev ), Dynamite under the City ( Майор Вихрь , 1967, filmed by director Evgeni Tashkow 1968), Seventeen Moments of Spring ( Сеомевниймдцнамена) весны , 1969, by director Tatiana Liosnowa 1973 as the same television series ) filmed, diamonds for the proletarian dictatorship ( Бриллианты для диктатуры пролетариата , 1971, a film 1975 by Grigori Kromanow ) A bomb for the chairman ( Бомба для председателя , 1971) and the Alternative ( Альтернатива , 1974–78). Semyonov also wrote the scripts for the film adaptations.

From 1977 Semjonow published the four-volume novel Die Glut ( Горение ) about the Cheka founder Felix Dzerzhinsky .

As early as 1983, the total circulation of his novels was over 12 million copies.

Honors

Semyonov was named Honored Artist of the RSFSR on September 15, 1982 , and two years later he was awarded the Order of the October Revolution . In addition, Semjonow was awarded the Order of Friendship of Nations and the KGB Prize in the field of art .
