Julianadorp is a place in the municipality of Den Helder in the north of the Dutch province of North Holland ( Dutch Noord-Holland ). It consists of the districts Julianadorp and Julianadorp aan Zee .
geography
Julianadorp ( German Juliana village ) is located about 80 km north of the Dutch capital Amsterdam between Alkmaar and Den Helder . The distance to Den Helder is about five kilometers. In the east, Julianadorp is bounded by the N9 expressway and the North Holland Canal , which runs parallel, and the North Sea in the west . The district Julianadorp aan Zee is located directly on the North Sea coast. The municipality of Schagen joins in the south, and the municipality of Hollands Kroon in the east .
history
The nucleus of today's place was the small hamlet Loopuyt in the polder “Het Koegras”, whose inhabitants lived from agriculture and cattle breeding. When it achieved the status of an independent village in 1909 through the construction of a church, it was named after the Crown Princess and later Queen Juliana , who was born in the same year, with the approval of the Dutch royal family.
In the past 100 years or so, Julianadorp has experienced a considerable increase in population and settlement area. Part of the responsibility for this was the strengthening of new branches of business, especially the cultivation of flower bulbs and the tourism industry, which is still expanding today. In the last few decades, in addition to numerous holiday parks, extensive new residential areas have emerged. Among the newcomers are many people who work in the center of Den Helder or in the Randstad agglomeration further south . The population of Julianadorp was 13,925 at the beginning of 2006.
Despite this growth, the place lost its independence when it was incorporated into Den Helder. Almost all important infrastructure facilities such as the train station, hospital or secondary schools are located in the port city located a good five kilometers to the north. The traffic connection there is mainly given by the coastal N 502 in the west and the N 9 running parallel to the Noordhollandsch Kanaal in the east. There are bus routes on both routes; further lines connect Julianadorp with the cities of Alkmaar and Schagen to the south .
The district of Julianadorp aan Zee, which is close to the beach, has changed its appearance significantly in recent years due to newly built holiday home parks, apartment complexes and the associated infrastructure. The number of overnight stays per year is now around 900,000. A significant part of the bathers comes from Germany.
