Juliane Windhager (born Juliana Maria Häuptner; born October 12, 1912 in Bad Ischl ; † November 23, 1986 in Salzburg ) was an Austrian poet , narrator and radio play author .

Life

The daughter of a factory owner published the novel Cordelia in 1936 and the novella Kassiansnacht in 1942 under her maiden name Lily Häuptner . It remains unclear whether these works can be attributed to “Inner Emigration” . After the war she published the historical novel Der Friedtäter über Paris von Lodron , Archbishop of Salzburg during the Thirty Years' War under the name Windhager .

In the following years she increasingly turned to poetry, with the influential poet and critic Karl Krolow paving the way for her. Gerhard Fritsch wrote after the publication of the first volume of poetry, The Left Angel :

“The fascinating thing about her poems is the naturalness with which she forces the shudder at the mystery of fate into the word from a landscape, sometimes just from a still life or a genre scene without any act. Your poems allow us to discover a new dimension in the world of everyday life. "

Windhager lived in Salzburg from 1939 until her death.
