Julien Lehouck (born August 14, 1896 in Egem , † February 25, 1944 in Breendonk ) was a Belgian athlete , entrepreneur and resister .

Julien Lehouck started at the Olympic Games in Antwerp in 1920 in three disciplines, in the 100-meter run , in the 4-by-100-meter relay and in the long jump . In his individual start, he was eliminated in the first round, as well as with the relay, in the long jump he finished 25th.

Senzeilles Castle

In 1921 Lehouck married Simonne Gerbehaye , the owner of Senzeilles Castle , took over the management of the family metal construction company Constructions Mécaniques Félix Gerbehaye after the death of his father-in-law Felix Gerbehaye and became mayor of Senzeilles . The family hid Jewish people who were on the run in their castle. On February 11, 1944, the Gestapo appeared in the castle to arrest Lehouck. He tried to escape, but injured himself while being lowered against a wall. He was arrested for "espionage and support for the Allies" and hung to death two weeks later . His wife and son Paul were also arrested the day before his execution. The woman was deported to the Ravensbrück concentration camp , where she was liberated on April 24, 1945; Paul Lehouck died in Bautzen . Simonne Lehouck-Gerbehaye made a political career after the war: She became the first female senator in Belgium and was mayor of Senzeilles from 1946 to 1976 (2014: around 750 inhabitants).
