Julio Adalberto Rivera Carballo

Julio Adalberto Rivera Carballo (born September 2, 1921 in Zacatecoluca , † July 29, 1973 in San José Guayabal ) was President of El Salvador from July 1, 1962 to July 1, 1967 .

Rivera Carballo was a colonel in the FAES . On January 25, 1961, he participated in a military coup against the Junta Cívico-Militar, which was chaired by Colonel Miguel Ángel Castillo . From January 25, 1961 to September 1961, he was a member of the Directorio Cívico Militar , which ruled El Salvador at the time. When he was elected in 1962, 400,118 votes were counted, 19,337 had not ticked, 11,980 had voted invalid and 368,801 voted the only candidate.

He was a candidate for the Partido de Conciliación Nacional and was elected president for five years. He then served from 1968 to 1973 as El Salvador's ambassador for the USA and for the UN .
