Julio Calcagno

Julio Calcagno (born March 20, 1937 in Montevideo , Uruguay ) is a Uruguayan actor .

Life

Calcagno initially worked as an actor at the Comedia Nacional after completing his training from 1956 to 1960 at the Escuela Municipal de Arte Dramático (EMAD) . There he worked, for example, in plays by the directors Antonio Larreta , Rubén Yáñez and Margarita Xirgu . He also played in various independent theater groups. Here he was seen at the Teatro Circular , the Teatro Libro and the Teatro del Pueblo . At that time he worked with Juan José Brenta , Mario Morgan , Rubén Castillo and Omar Grasso, among others . After he had finished his first engagement at Comedia Nacional, he played in various other theaters until his return to the Comedia Nacional ensemble in 1994.

While he impersonated roles in plays by Lope de Vega , Ricardo Talesnik , Justino Zabala Muniz , Dario Fo , Ibsen , Peter Weiss and Carlo Goldoni at the theater , he was also seen on the screen and on television. As early as 1980 he took part in the Super 8 film Al mediodía , a work by graduates of the school of the Cinemateca Uruguaya . He also acted in 1996 under the director Christine Laurent in the film Transatlantique and in 2003 he had a leading role in Guillermo Casanova's work El viaje hacia el mar . On the channels Canal 4 , Canal 5 and Canal 10 he was an actor in various telenovelas .

Calcagno also recorded the two records Los caballos perdidos and Me gustan los estudiantes and is a member of the SODRE radio play ensemble .

Awards

Calcagno won the Premio Florencio in 1981 for his role in La empresa perdona un momento de locura in the category of best actor. Several more times he was among the three proposed candidates for this award. For his work in Compañeros de clase , a video by Héctor Manuel Vidal and Rodríguez Castro from 1988, he was also voted best actor at the VII National SODRE Competition.
