Life
society
Julio Gómez received his first professional contract at the age of 16 with CF Pachuca , for whom he made his debut in the Mexican Primera División on January 22, 2011 . In an encounter between "his" Tuzos and the hosts Santos Laguna , which ended 1-1, he was substituted on in the 64th minute on the third matchday of Clausura 2011 at the Estadio Corona in Torreón .
National team (U-17)
In the same stadium, the still only 16-year-old Gómez made history on July 7, 2011 and played the most successful game of his young career to date. Because he was the undisputed “match winner” of the semi-finals between the host Mexican U-17 national team and the German U-17 selection at the U-17 World Cup in 2011 . After just three minutes he had given the hosts a 1-0 lead with a header, which, however, turned into a 2-1 deficit as a result. The Mexicans equalized after a corner kick in the 76th minute, which Jorge Espericueta was able to convert directly. While trying to push the high ball with his head behind the line, Gómez, who was also instrumental in this scene, collided so unhappily with Samed Yesil , who in turn wanted to head the ball away, that he suffered a severely bleeding laceration and received a head bandage. After Mexico had already fulfilled its exchange quota, the ailing Gómez continued to play against the advice of the team doctor. After another corner kick in the last minute of the game, Gómez scored the 3-2 winner with an overhead kick , with which Mexico qualified for the final. This goal and his overall good performance were rewarded with winning the "Golden Ball" of the U-17 World Cup . In the final of the tournament, which Mexico won 2-0 against Uruguay , Gómez was not part of the starting eleven, but was only substituted in the 63rd minute of the game.
